Today I Told a Cashier How She Could Make Rainbow-Colored Unicorn Poop

March 16, 2022

Sawdust mixed with glue. I mean, doesn’t everyone know how to make paintable unicorn poop?

Strange experiences seem to find me!

Sometimes I can’t help but notice that my days can be filled with unusual interactions. Today, a cashier at Home Depot was ringing up some rough fence wood (which I selected instead of a few 2 x 4’s due to the high cost, over $7 each) and asked what I was doing with them.

I told her “some garden projects” but of course I was wearing my jeans that have paint stains on them and she began telling me creative uses for such boards. Since she was mentioning so many creative ideas she had seen on Pinterest and elsewhere, I asked her if she did creative projects. She said yes and that she was currently working on a unicorn and wishing she knew how to make unicorn poop.

She kind of whispered in a lower voice,

“unicorn poop,” almost under her breath.

As though she feared it vulgar!

In my mind’s eye, she may have also been

shielding her mouth a bit, with her hand,

when she uttered “unicorn poop” while

conversing with me at the register.

Even though, at that point, no one else was in line!

I looked at her, probably smiling and nodding, and she clarified that she imagined rainbow colors!

I was getting further into this conversation. Totally.

I suddenly said, “I know exactly how you can do it!”

I tried to tell her about how I formed colored little eggs from sawdust and glue and painted them rainbow colors to go with…um…umm...I forget how I tried to verbally explain it…by then I stood aside while she waited on the next person and tried to locate an image of my “Egg-Bearing-Hippie-Girl” transformed gradually from a ceramic Princess Lamp I found at Goodwill, and holding meaning to me!

It’s like, a major award, of sorts. Ha!

The best image I could find on my phone was the one featured at the top of this piece. (Below, I have some updated images of her, and she is Stunning!)

She loved seeing the art creation, and I gave her my card and told her to please feel free to contact me and stop in my studio sometime – I told her I was serious and I have bags of sawdust I will give her to make her unicorn poop!

And that she might be interested in seeing some of my creative projects.

She seemed to sincerely thank me and show interest and I’m hoping she will follow through.

That would be fun.

I told her I’d show her the Egg-Bearing Hippie Girl in person too!
