There’s a conversation going on these days about what it means to be a woman.
I recently watched a documentary which set out to find out the answer to a simple question, “What is a Woman?”
I’ve done a lot of thinking about my own womanhood over the years and what that means to me, and to others.
After watching this amazing documentary, I thought I would ask on social media the same question and see what responses came. But, I posed the question for people to try to tell me in one word, what a woman is. And next, I asked the same for one word to tell me what a man is.
I don’t think I had any earth-shattering responses. I thought perhaps I might find some pattern or something that might help me to better form this piece. (And in my post, I explained that I was seeking answers for a possible blog post contemplation).
The best I could do with the responses were to sort them into nouns vs. adjectives under each column. I have included each person’s response(s) and note that two different people defined a woman as “caregiver” so I have it twice, and some people, answered with more than one word.
Woman | Man |
Caregiver – noun Caregiver – noun Determined – adjective Fierce – adjective Giver – noun Healer – noun Helper – noun Intuitive – adjective Multi-tasker – noun Not a man – noun Nuturer – noun Passionate – adjective Strong – adjective | Harbor – noun Protector – noun Rock – noun Secret-keeper – noun Strong – adjective |
I suppose a noun implies something more inherent, and an adjective something more descriptive.
But, I believe all answers in either column, regardless of their part of speech, could be applied to both men and women, in the biological sense.
I find it puzzling, and like the unclothed Emperor, that so much is increasingly being built upon an idea that its most vocal proponents cannot (or will not) hold a logical conversation about. To understand this comment, you might need to watch the documentary, first, before forming some opinion why I would say such a thing.
I will link here, but it seems this documentary on YouTube keeps being taken down due to copyright issues…and I haven’t delved far enough to find how/where one might pay to watch it through the original owner, The Daily Wire.
So, I will also link the official trailer, as well, in case you need to track it down after I make this post.

So Why am I a woman? How would I know?
For me, the answer is pretty simple. I am a woman because my chromosomes have determined that I am capable of, and have experienced, bearing children. My chromosomes have also determined to some extent, my interests, identity and capabilities, enabling me to doing extremely well with some types of physical, mental and emotional tasks and not as well with others.
And I think this holds true for men, also.
I am not saying that there is or should be some firm line drawn between the qualities, strengths, weaknesses, capabilities and pursuits of each biological sex, and especially nothing about inequality of the two sexes in terms of worth, value, etc.
Within me, as I imagine within any human made in God’s image, there exists some amount and spectrum of qualities more often associated with one sex vs. the other, but can be found in both males and females. But, that does not change, nor need to re-define, a basic question rooted in non-subjective truth.
I recently Googled a term and came up with an article stating, with certainty, that there are at least 26 gender identities. When I read that the first one was if one has any sexual attraction at all, that is a gender identity in-and-of-itself, I thought even moreso that it is time to acknowledge that for some reason, this whole issue is being over-thunk.
And then, I must wonder…why…
As I tried to find this same article, I found others, with the highest number of perceived “gender identities” being at 72. And this, is found on “medicine-net,” therefore I doubt it is subject to censorship or being labeled as disinformation or misinformation. Though I do believe it is not based in any substantive, scientific or long-standing truth.
What Are the 72 Other Genders?
