But, the Kids Feel ‘Safer’ With That Flag

June 19, 2023

It’s almost 5:30 pm here on another mad Monday…with a lot going on. I pause to share this talk that I’ve eleven minutes into while doing dishes (after making two quiches, a blackberry pie and ham soup for my next several days). In between a multitude of other tasks.

This is going to be an interesting discussion and many, like me, may have time (or make time) to listen to worthy conversations while driving, washing dishes and perhaps even working or walking.

Eleven minutes into this discussion about parental objection to an elementary school that is featuring a Pride Flag…and the comment was made that someone said (paraphrase) “but, the kids feel ‘safer’ with that flag.”

There is so much to unpack in that statement.

What does that even mean? That grade school kids need to “feel safe” in the way this language is currently being manipulated.

Is school a place where teachers get to espouse their political ideas? If they get to fly a Pride Flag, then what about a Christian Flag or Trump Flag? (I am NOT saying anyone should do this, either.) That point is, that public school is not a place for political coercion/indoctrination of any sort by those in authority over our children.

But, how are they getting to do this?

Re-name it as science. Or child protection. Or social/community awareness.

But whatever you do, don’t dare to call it a new religion, complete with prosyltization.

Believe it or not, we can listen in to the public conversational voices of those in professional fields such as teaching, therapy, pediatrics and others who have boots on the ground in this terrible war.
