PAIN – and the “Internalized Mother/Internalized Father Functions”

September 13, 2023

Pausing here to share a podcast that I’m early into while working. I think this one is going to be good, with a variety of thought-provoking considerations and challenges.

Ignore the initial chit-chat between the two speakers over South Africa/Ireland and other ice-breaking conversations. I’m about 15 minutes in…

If you have any interest in topics of trauma, PTSD, the WOKE movement and victimhood, real-and-true traumas, attachment issues (I think they will be exploring this) you may benefit from a listen to this talk.

I decided to share when they began discussing the functions of the “internalized mother” (nurture) vs. the “internalized father” (challenge) in terms of responses to pain, the distinction between trauma and discomfort (and the culture of psychobabble and change of distinctions/DSM, etc)…and the way these two internalized functions of mother/father must work together.

In a world marked by divorce and parental role dysfunctions, I think they are on to something…

Quite interesting…and I’m ready to hear more.
