Four Recent Caricature Gigs Set to Music!

This audio-video shows photos from my most recent caricature gigs! When I am at events I enjoy the little conversations I have with each person I draw. I remember little snippets of things they tell me about themselves as I ask questions in order to listen and get them to engage with me while I try to quickly capture them. What I may ask in general depends on the event. At the Jefferson College event the most obvious questions to...

Seeing, Immediacy, Watercolor and Life…

Recently I painted a portrait from the last photo taken of a friend’s father, drinking his coffee. I saw the image shared online last summer and was immediately struck with the desire to paint from this image, for a number of reasons ranging from care and sympathy (this photo had accompanied some sharing about her father’s recent death), to the immediately recognizable artistic qualities this image presents to me as a painting-worthy photo reference. As I worked on the piece...

Magic at the Moonstone Manor

Lisa and Jon Adams were married at the Moonstone Manor mansion and gardens on June 18, 2022 – such a beautiful and magical wedding venue located in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania. I was honored and delighted for the entirety of my experience with this couple, the mother-of-the-bride in particular, and other family members and guests I had the privilege and opportunity to interact with during the event itself. I am always grateful for each significant commission I now choose whether to accept...

Caricatures from Nadia’s 14th Birthday Party!

Last Saturday I drew caricatures at a birthday party for a 14-year-old girl, her friends, some younger attendees and one adult with her dog! The adults present loved what I was doing and I had a lot of fun, even staying after I finished and packed up to watch the magician – a wonderful performance by a master of illusion! Almost a week later, as I add in the photos from that day, I’m trying to remember a few of...

Portrait in Purple: Innocence

Sometimes I complete portraits that are gifts, or otherwise personally inspired and non-commissioned works. This piece is one of them. Begun around 2018 or 2019 while still in Alabama, I was inspired by some old photos I saw either online, or possibly by email…old photos of my cousin, Laura, that I had never seen before. I recently learned that her oldest brother, Dennis Slifer, had taken these old black-and-white treasures…I do have them in my computer files labeled “Laura…and 1963…”...

Hand-Painted Wedding Invitation for Virginia and Guy

I recently finished this watercolor/guache hand-painted portrait of Bride and Groom on a matted and framed invitation from their wedding. This piece also featured some metallic gold highlighting which worked well with the decorative gold frame. My client, Christen, has ordered a number of these personal wedding keepsakes – seem to be her go-to gift in recent years and I so appreciate the repeat business! After some views here of my most recent piece, I will also include those she...
