Vocal Fry and Explaining the “Theyby”

June 16, 2022

I came across something on YouTube tonight, and as I carefully listened to this interesting interview, I began to wonder, “Is that vocal fry that I am hearing?”

I mean, I am not certain. And, of course, the evolution or quality of our voice and speech patterns is a complex thing. I certainly would not want to question someone’s natural vocal sound.

I suppose I just find intentional (learned behavior) vocal fry irritating. And, it sounds so painful.

Nevertheless, I think we can learn a lot from this interview. Toward the end, we learn what “childism” is, as well as other toxic and terrible parental behaviors toward the very young child. The person interviewed explains all this to us, and the section toward the end is particularly intriguing.

It is really worth the listen. In its entirety, of course.

But I’m really wondering, do you hear what I hear

or is it my imagination?

Is that vocal fry???
